HISTORY

Steve Kinser is a 20-time World of Outlaws (WoO) Sprint Car Series champion. His first World of Outlaws race was the inaugural event on March 18, 1978 at Devil’s Bowl Speedway. Steve has won every major Sprint car race during his racing career.

 

Achievements include:

  • 690 career WoO Sprint Car Series A-Feature victories

  • 12 Knoxville Nationals championships

  • 14th in the 1997 Indianapolis 500

  • 14-time National 410 Sprint Car Driver of the Year

  • 19-time American Auto Racing Writers & Broadcasters Association All-American honoree

  • 12-Time Gold Cup Race of Champions Winner

  • 2-Time United Sprint Association Champion

  • Slick 50 World Sprint Series Champion

  • Listed as America’s winningest driver in StockCar magazine

  • Won International Race of Champions (IROC) race at Talladega in 1994

  • Set National short track record with 56 feature victories, including 46 of 69 World of Outlaws main events in 1987

  • Inducted into the Sprint Car Hall of Fame in 2005

  • Has over 900 career feature wins

  • His first feature win was at Paragon Speedway in 1973 at the age of 20

Steve Kinser formed his own team back in 1997 after returning from the NASCAR circuit. As an owner/driver, Steve has won 6 World of Outlaws championships. 

 

Kraig Kinser, Steve's son is currently the driver for Steve Kinser Racing (SKR). Kraig is joined by Mike Kuemper, as crew chief and Randy Kinser as the team engine builder.

Began racing winged Sprint cars in 2000. Kraig was the 2004 World of Outlaws Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year. Won the 2005 Knoxville Nationals making him and father Steve, the only father-son duo to have won the prestigious event. In 2005 debuted and won the Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) race at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn. Made 18 starts in 2006 with the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. Made 13 starts in 2007 with the Truck Series and 2 ARCA starts. Won that year's All Star Circuit of Champions Fall Classic at Lawrenceburg Speedway.
Has 17 career WoO Sprint car victories, earning him a spot inside the top-21 of the WoO all-time win list. 

In 2016 Kraig and the Steve Kinser Racing team completed in the All Star Circuit of Champions series, receiving Rookie of the Year.​

  • 2004 - Won his first World of Outlaws A-Feature at Cottage Grove (Ore,) Speedway

  • 2004 – Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year

  • 2005 - Won ARCA event at Talledega (Ala.) Superspeedway in only his second career start

  • Made 18 NASCAR Craftman Truck series starts in 2006 and 13 in 2007

  • Returned back the family owned #11k sprint car in 2010, teaming with brother-in-law, Mike Kuemper, making them the youngest driver/crew chief combination out competing with the World of Outlaws series

  • The duo has won 5 World of Outlaws A-Feature events to date
